Last Saturday, the new 7th Edition rule book for 40k was released. A lot of people were upset, as the last edition was released in 2012, only two years ago, as opposed to previous editions being released in 4 year intervals, making this the quickest update to the rules ever, and having people fork out more money two years early if they wish to continue playing. Was it a ploy for money? Possibly. However it does add a bit to the game.
With a relatively early release of the 7th Edition rules, that makes our new Codex: Astra Militarum the first codex of the new rules. Now, having had a quick glance at the rule book, not a great deal changes from the old rules. Some notable changes are; 'new ways to organize your army, new psychic phase and demonology, and new missions and objectives'. The majority of the rules themselves have not changed much at all, aside from little things like allowing elites to hold objectives and so on.
Now that some time has passed, and that you certainly have had time to experiment with our new codex, I am quite happy with it. I tried my first game with it not so long ago and was very impressed with the new orders, and the tank HQ which can issue orders to other armoured units, which was previously not possible in the game.
What are everyone else's thoughts on either the new rules, or the Astra Militarum codex?
All hail the God Emperor.

Who are We?
This club is for those who like the Imperial Guard as a whole. Generally, members would draw/create pictures of, or collect an army of the Imperial Guard. Aside from that, it is a club for anyone who is interested in the Imperial Guard, and/or simply prefers them over other Warhammer 40,000 factions.
About the Imperial Guard
The Imperial Guard are the largest body of fighting men and women in the 41st Millennium Imperium. The Imperial Guard is a colossal organization, consisting of billions of men and women from millions of different worlds and systems within the Imperium. Each regiment is a force of between three thousand and ten thousand fighting soldiers, supported by a dazzling array of light and heavy armoured vehicles. Each regiment also has its own entourage, consisting of support staff, camp followers, suppliers, tech-priests, doctors, religious leaders, and the like.
The Imperial Guard are far more numerous than the Space Marines, as the contributions of some planets to Imperial Guard regiments over the ten thousand years of the Imperium runs into the billions. The Imperial Guard are constantly at war, freeing worlds from Chaotic or alien influence, or defending them from the same.

Codex: Astra Militarum - The Imperial Guard
And so the new Imperial Guard codex was released last weekend. And there are lots of great things in it for those who field an Imperial Guard army.
I must say, I was quite impressed with it. For the majority of imperial guard units, the over all point cost has gone down, making it easier for us to field larger armies. There have been changes to the orders which I quite like as well. But my favorite addition is the choice of using a tank commander as an HQ, along with tank and armoured squadron specific orders, so those of us who want to field more tanks, this is a god send.
Indeed, the new models are also quite good. The Scions (replaces th
New Codex: Militarum Tempestus
Well, it seems the first release from Games Workshop is not the new Imperial Guard Codex (Astra Militarum), but now on pre-order is the Codex Militarum Tempestus (or Storm Army); the new codex for the Storm Troopers. That's right, just like Chapters of the Space Marines sometimes get their own codex, now a regiment in the Imperial Guard does also. The Storm Troopers are not recruited from any one planet, but across the Imperium and they are sometimes hailed as the finest soldiers outside the chapters of space marines. The new models for the Storm Troopers loop pretty good, all clad in either closed helmets, or very militaristic berets along w

New Imperial Guard Codex + Name Change
I have some good, and not as good information. It seems in two weeks time there will finally be new Imperial Guard releases from the Games Workshop, including new infantry models, and at least one new vehicle (a transport of sorts, that can carrier larger objects than the standard guardsmen... Think Ogryns). I'm also told by 'reliable sources' that the overall point cost of the Imperial Guard will go down slightly, which means larger armies for the same old point cost.
However, on another note, also from reliable sources, the name of the Imperial Guard is going to change with this new codex release. Possibly due to copyright issues, Games Wo

I am one of those who decried the allies matrix (they should do away with the matrix altogether and get really specific, but chalk one up for simplicity in this list) at first, but to be honest, it's more accurate than it was.
Also, I also understand how people can be angry about the rules turning around so early, but consider this: the turnaround for 7th edition took what, two or three years? Let's say two at the least. The previous edition was seventy five dollars, US currency for a hardback, non-digital copy. That means you paid about 35 dollars a year to play warhammer 40k. If you used the rulebook out of the starter box, that means that you actually paid TWENTY dollars a year to play the game. My local GW Manager said that they don't plan to have an 8th edition for another 5 years, as they want to take the time between then and now to redo a lot of the dated models they have in inventory. We paid eighty five dollars for this new book (which is easier to handle, now that the rules, lore and painter's expose are in their own sub-books), so it will cost us SEVENTEEN dollars per year to play this game. How much does it cost some of you gamers to keep your XBox subscription again?
Also, who cares about the new vehicle damage list? Now vehicles are (rightly) more difficult to pop. I can't tell you how many times my Armoured Fist lists have become smoking wreckages, with their passengers cooked inside. Now, they are properly harder to kill.
TL;DR Quit whining. The Emperor doesn't care for your piddly feelings. At the very least, the Commissar at your back certainly doesn't, and neither do your comrades.
